Yesterday, I started my Saturday with SSPCA (Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Somehow, I actually came across their campaign’s poster last semester in my campus (somewhere on the notice board). But, I didn’t give a damn to it until yesterday it got me attracted. Things started from last Saturday whereby my friend asked me to drop him down at the Shelter (SSPCA’s centre). He actually persuaded me to go down to have a look but, he failed. I resisted going down. Hehe! After dropping him down, I drove back home. Logged in to my Facebook account. In the middle of Facebook-ing, my itchy hands suddenly typed “SSPCA” in the Search column and pressed Enter. The first thing I’ll see is of course the photos!
Seeing those doggies and cats, I really pitied them. Some are abandoned by their owners, while some are actually left at the Shelter by their owners.
Without thinking much, I just “Like” the page. It attracted me to do something to help those innocent doggies and cats. A day or two before Saturday, I received notification that there’s an event going on at SSPCA. I went to have check it out of course! And I got to know that SSPCA actually held a Pet Adoption Campaign at iCATS (International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak – a college at Stutong) in conjunction with iCATS Open Day. Since the pictures got me attracted, it’s time to take action and lend a hand. So, I attended and helped out as a volunteer.
There, I got to know the Mdm. Pei Ling and Mdm. Dona, the commitees of SSPCA. Also, I got to meet new friends, Henry (a guy who loves cats and kittens) as well as his gf, Candy (a part time accounting student taking ACCA Level 2 and also a Kindergarten teacher near my housing area). Both of them are pretty nice and sweet. Hehe! A lovely couple I would say
Basically, all the doggies and cats at SSPCA are cleaned and neutered. One of the reasons of neutering is that SSPCA thinks that these animals have gone through enough pain and do not want more unwanted little puppies and kittens to suffer (or being treated harshly by the new owners). For the adoption campaigns held by SSPCA, all matured dogs and cats are neutered. Anyone interested to adopt can choose dogs/cats of their preference for RM30 each. The adoption fee RM30 is actually the costs covered for neutering, medicine, food and etc of the dogs/cats.
If you are interested to adopt and have missed the iCATS Pet Adoption Campaign, you can always adopt at the Shelter (SSPCA centre “Animal Kingdom” @ Jalan Nanas Road in front of After 4 Cafe). There’ll be Pet Adoption Campaign by SSPCA at the Shelter every fortnight.
On the other hand, if you would really like to help out instead of adopting a dog/cat and take care of it, you can always:
1) Be a volunteer for SSPCA
2) Donate generously (in terms of money/dogs food/cats food/newspapers for lining the animals’ cages/your unwated cages at home/etc) for the dogs and cats at SSPCA
3) Help to spread the news/awareness of SSPCA to your friends, families, relatives and the public

That’s how I had my meaning Saturday with the cats and kittens yesterday! (Sadly, doggies are not allowed in iCATS as there’re Malays there.)
P/S: No pictures for this post. I was too busy and didnt get to shoot any.
Sorry! Next post then
